How to Play Cap Crunch

The 2022-23 Boston Bruins had the greatest regular season in NHL history: 65 wins, 12 losses, 5 OT — 135 points. Their best six alone would cost over the cap. Your job: build a better six-man roster for $25 million or less.

The Steps

  1. Spin a team & year. The wheel lands on one franchise-season from NHL history (1970s–today).
  2. Sign one player from that roster for the slot you're filling — three forwards, two defensemen, one goalie.
  3. Watch the cap. Every signing eats into your $25M. Don't like the draw? Re-spin for $2.5M off your budget — spend it wisely.
  4. Hunt value. Every contract is era-adjusted to today's dollars, and young players on cheap deals are the steals that win you the game.
  5. Get your record. Your six ratings project a full 82-game record. Clear 65 wins / 135 points to top the Bruins.

Ratings reflect each player's real production that season, era-adjusted. Cap hits reflect market value — reputation, age and (for modern stars) their real AAV. The gap between the two is where you win.
